7 : Polar Vortexez, LULAC, and an RV update by David Hernandez

This week I got a little work done on the shield for the LULAC logo. An Iowa City-scape will be planted behind this in the weeks to come.

Some developments have taken place on the Perez RV as well, adding a little more contrast and defining a few small parts around the camper.

Us being in the midst of the polar vortex and all, I've included a view above Iowa City and a glimpse into how I'll be spending these frosty days.

6 : Further on with the RV, also LULAC logo and a calavera cup by David Hernandez

This week was more RV centric, but I also began sketches for a logo to be used by the LULAC council of Iowa City. As far as the RV went, I added a little more contrast and refined the contours of the trailer.

I also found an old tip cup the other day, which featured a reimagining of the company illustrations. Replacing the patrons with Posada style calaveras.

Finally, I have included my drawing companion Meatloaf. He is allowed companion status so long as he keeps his hook socks in.

5 : San Antonio and an RV by David Hernandez

Back to work after an extended visit in San Antonio. Very cool to see family and friends. Even got to take in a First Friday. Using the sign above Rosario's as a harbinger of things to come this year, I plan to update this section with more frequency.

This week, I continued work on a long overdue wood piece for my uncle. Hoping to add some text and ink this upcoming week. Here's where the project is at so far.

4 : Dommie, The Santos Family, Table Drawing by David Hernandez

Those who were raised on the Christmas classic Jack Frost might remember Kubla Klaus' sidekick Dommie. If not, jump to 21:10 of that link for an introduction to the Kozak King and his puppet friend.

I've also begun work on a few extremely overdue drawings. The first up is a family portrait for the family I have here in Iowa City, who will be moving next year on an exciting adventure to Maryland.

Finally, this is the first of hopefully many stages in a collaborative table drawing done with Anslem M Green and Thee Strawman.

3 : ? by David Hernandez

Sorry for the extreeeeemely overdue update. But this will be an area I will try to improve on. The past few months have been interesting. Lots of changes.

Here is a glimpse of what has gone on since the last update. A lot of espresso/coffee has been made over the past few years, and that aspect of my life has been paused at the moment.

November brought the opportunity to meet up with my old friend Raquel Segnario, and take part in Art on the Prarie in Perry, IA. It was awesome to meet some really great people, hear some great music, and sell some prints :)

I also got to work on an illustration of Beta-catenin with a very knowledgeable scientist friend :) Working on the visualizing the various aspects of someone's everyday research was very cool.

...and finally, the end product of a special mix cd and a sketch made during a chilly drawing session this past week.

I hope to make these updates more frequent. Thank you to those of you who have visited the site, both here and on etsy.

Take care, stay warm.
