22: Back To Work by David Hernandez

Back in Denver, I am attempting to get back on track as far a completing drawings goes. As of now, I have a few projects in the works and will begin to post updates as they develop.

First up, a request from my fellow barista for a drawing of her home-state-flower, a sunflower. Finding out it was the state flower was the motivation for placing a Kansas shaped window at the bottom of the page. A little more shading, and a final inking for this one.

Also, included in this post are a few of the visually appealing sites around my new home base: CapHill, VooDoo Doughnuts, the Denver Art Museum and a very photogenic squirrel.

21: My Grandpa Mikey's 90th by David Hernandez

In the month of September, I was fortunate enough to get a little break from the adventure that is Denver, to visit my home in San Antonio for my Grandfather's 90th birthday.

Here is to the man, who was always available to answer my hundreds of questions as a curious youth, the softball coach who took my Grandma and I along to softball games every Sunday (which coincidentally sparked my fascination for the night sky and the game of pool), and the man who could be counted on most every morning to be up and working in and around the house before the sun came up. He taught me the importance of persistent, hard work and I am forever grateful.

Happy Birthday Mikey

20: Exploration Continues ... by David Hernandez

Working near the apartment has allowed to me the opportunity to explore the town via bicycle. Thankfully, the crash-o-meter only sits at one. Here are a few of the sights I encountered within the first month of the move.

Included is the most brilliant rainbow I have ever seen, a puppeteer at the 'Stage Stage' during 'New Belgium's Tour de Fat' who did a series of miniature rock performances (I was able to get a few of his David Byrne set), and the glass art of Dale Chihuly at the Denver Botanic Gardens.

19: Exploring Denver by David Hernandez

As things settled with the job and the apartment. I was able to branch out and began exploring the city. Making new friends thankfully involved post-work drinks about town. Thankfully this also included late night drink specials and late night meal deals with kale. Damn.

Here are a few shots of my new neighborhood: The RiNo District.

And my first drawing project since arriving: a reprint of Batman's 1960's villain supergroup The United Underworld. More to come SOON!!

18: Establish Yo Self by David Hernandez

As the apartment search ended, so did the job hunt. New city, new coffee shop. The interview process went well and soon I was back behind the counter, trying to learn the in's and out's of the new place. With the job in hand, I felt safer leaving my initial-temporary-airbnb home   I said farewell to Thornton and hello to metro Denver.

Amidst all this, I was able to visit the Denver International Airport and spotted a few of the interesting art pieces.

Also, tequila skulls! AND The Entertainer known as The Driver!
