17: Welcome to Denver by David Hernandez

My first week in Denver was as stressful as you could imagine cold-calling a new city might be. No job? no apartment? No problem!

Just kidding, it was terrifying. However, I did get a few shots of my new (potential) city of residence.

Included in this update! David explores the nearest single-dollar-sign Mexican Restaurant! (And it is not only amazing, but has the largest tequila selection I have ever seen). David finds an apartment! (Let's hope this is only a temporary spot though) and finally ... A victory burger/beer basket to celebrate it all coming together (as well as a view from the new place).

Hello Denver!

16: On the Road by David Hernandez

I spent the better part of the next two days on the road. Leaving Iowa City at 5pm was probably not the brightest idea I have ever had, but the last couple of days there were filled with too many not-so-well-thought out plans.

Below are a few photos from the journey that was. Including some farewell images from Iowa and rest stops in Nebraska with a green-lit patron saint-ish grandmas. Ending with the sign that welcomed me to this colorful state:

15: Moving Out West by David Hernandez

At the beginning of this year, my roommate and I began the conversation about exploring life outside of the Iowa City area. An area I had enjoyed for the past 11 years. A variety of possibilities were thrown out, with Denver, CO being the ultimate conclusion.

The following months were filled with job searching and apartment hunting. And, after a few plans fell through, I decided the journey was on.

An intense 2 weeks of uncertainty followed. The house was packed up and my belongings were  stored. In the process, I had to say good bye to a few of my favorite pieces. So, in this section I say farewell to the pieces and places left behind.

Below: the residence I enjoyed for the past 3 years, both the abstracted leg piece from a sculture class and a ceramic basketball created in an Intro to Ceramics class. Also, Mark, without whom the storage process would not have happened.

Finally, the car with which I traveled cross-country twice, cross-mid-west more than thrice, and pulled a '______ Where's My Car?' moment in New Orleans. Goodnight Sweet Princess, and thank you for not dying on me when I needed you most.

With the rental car packed, I began my journey out west.

14: Oh, sorry. Kinda got sidetracked there ... by David Hernandez

Hello! It has been a little while since the last update. A lot has changed over the last couple of months, so I have broken this update into three parts. First, the last few months in Iowa City. Since the last update, a basketball team out of San Antonio made it back to the championship game and played some beautiful basketball, sooooo Kawhi.

I was also given the opportunity to draw up the Java House's master barista logo, included are the progress photos as well as the final product (thank you Jake for modeling for the piece).

I also finished another mix cd cover for a close friend, 'twas a very cool opportunity to create a rebus puzzle ala the underside of Mickey's bottle-caps.

Finally, a dear friend was given away at the end of the summer. My loyal companion BMO was given up for adoption, as I prepared to embark onto the next adventure. Having lived with him/her for the past couple of years was a pleasure, and that Halloween was a blast. Here are the last photos as (s)he waited to be picked up. Take care old friend.

If you are still keeping up with these posts, I appreciate it as much as stuff being on sale ... freal.

13 : A Spring Break by David Hernandez

This week’s update (like the spring) took a little while to get here. But those weeks were filled with plenty of opportunities for drawing, which is always good.

In that time frame, the RV piece has been completed and will be sent out by the end of the week! A scan of the final piece should be up by then too (images of some detail are below).

There was also an exciting side mission, with my roommate’s celebration of birth happening since the last update. Included are the images from her birthday card inspired by Leigh Lahav.

Have a great week. Updates next week!
